I wondered about artist-philanthropy fundraising agreements this week as I stumbled upon this Matt Nathanson video that is the official video for his new song and also a promotion and fundraiser for the Starkey Hearing Foundation. It’s also consequentially been framed in my mind with the discussion we had about the artist riders—some reasonable, some wacky. It’s certainly great exposure for the organization and its cause. I’m curious how these sorts of agreements are met, what are the terms of the contract, and how are they executed. Basically, what is the fine print of a deal like this, and how does it help or potentially hurt both the artist and the organization.
